Chris and I went to the Pacific Northwest a month after September 11, 2001 and had one hell of a time getting into Canada. If my memory serves me right, we drove from Oakland, CA to Portland, OR. The next day drove to Vancouver, BC. Then back to US&A – to Seattle, WA. Getting into the States was easy as pie. But getting into Canada…damn… Those Mounties must’ve thought we were trying to abandon the US&A and head north.
Here was part of the conversation at the border…
Them:Â “Why do you have soooo much film in your car?”
Us:Â “Well, because we’re both photographers.”
Them:Â “But why all the film and photo equipment?”
Us:Â “Well, again, because we’re both photographers.”
Them:Â “What are you going to do with all the film and equipment?”
Us:Â “Take pictures of trees and rocks.”
Them:Â “I just don’t understand why you have so much film…”
